Learn how to build a RACI Matrix with Claude

Do you have to create a RACI matrix and find it painful to create it step by step and manually?

Then let me show you how to improve your way of creating one yourself today.

The Old Way

I tried to do it manually: Opening an Excel sheet, typing in all the different activities of a sales organization - Enterprise sales, client handover, Post-Sales, client management, technical implementations, use cases and more.

After that, I created the list of roles on the right axis. And dropdowns for the RACO matrix for each field:

R = Responsible = the person responsible for the task and the execution

A = Accountable = the person is accountable for it, but may not necessarily be responsible for it and execute it

C = Consulted = the person or people that should be consulted to make that task a success

I = Informed = the people that should be informed and be hold in the loop during execution of the task, but that are not involved in the execution nor being accountable for the results

And then it was time to fill that all out - each individual field.

I can tell you, that is annoying at best.

And thats when I decided to ask Claude.

The New Way

I asked Claude in an abstract way the following things:

  • You have here a list of the tasks that we need to do (copy/paste of the list I created of tasks before)

  • You have here a list of the personas and roles that need to matched together. And here is the job description of these people.

  • Now, take the tasks and the list of people and this <context> and create the RACI matrix for me

The result?

Claude created a full Excel table for me. XLSX format. And damn, did it look good without me spending one minute formatting and structuring.

And even better, I could go through the table, review everything, make sure it was correct, adapt and change where needed. But the nitty gritty, annoying manual task was done without me having to do it.

And that was simply great!
